MYSTERRA WOMAN OF THE MONTH
NOVEMBER
MEET
RUTH
Ruth Ann Begay, a Phoenix, Arizona native, found herself transplanted to the vibrant city of Albuquerque, New Mexico during her early years. Growing up immersed in her Navajo heritage, she spoke the language fluently, a tradition she held onto despite her family's move aimed at stepping away from Reservation customs. Despite their relocation, one tradition that clung to them was their deep-rooted love for Native Indian Jewelry.
Her journey into the art of silversmithing was an heirloom passed down through generations. Observing her mother and sister meticulously crafting silver jewelry, Ruth absorbed their techniques like a sponge. Post high school, she delved into silversmithing professionally, commencing with basic bezels and soldering, gradually progressing to intricate decorative designs like delicately fashioned leaves. Presently, her repertoire boasts a diverse range of jewelry, primarily in the gleam of silver but not limited to it, showcasing her mastery in crafting stunning pieces in gold and turquoise.
