Dorothy Mogutu, a resilient Ajiri label-maker based in Kenya, has undergone various struggles in her life that threatened to dampen her strong spirit. Widowed at a young age with young children, and with two boys and girls, Dorothy struggled to make ends meet after her husband of 8 years died in 2010. Left without any assets or possessions, Dorothy was rendered unable to cover her children’s school fees, and they were always sent home.

Yet, there was hope for the young woman with a dream. Offered a job to work as a label and accessory maker, Dorothy was provided with a job, and therefore another chance at fulfilling her aspirations. She felt “lifted” with a renewed sense of purpose as she labels accessories such as bags, jewelry, and other usefully-stylish items.
